Gawain surprised Fate with his newfound offensive, or at least he would have if she could feel surprise at that moment. Instead she simply learned and adapted, a small glimmer of acknowledgement to his skills in a far corner of her mind. But she didn't have time for that, he had counteracted her strategy perfectly, pressing the offense and attempting to force her onto the defensive. But while her attacks may have been more calm and calculated, that also meant her responses were far less volatile and uncontrolled. As he thrust his sword at her chest, she quickly processed that an attempt to dodge in a standard means would result in her falling, forfeiting her advantage in the fight. But to simply sit there and take it would drastically lower her aura pools, something she could not do. So instead she placed her free left hand over the blade and with a single claw, pushed herself off it and flipped over his head. For a moment her entire weight was balanced on that one claw, pressing fully into Gawain's blade. The next she was hurtling over him, twisting mid air and delivering a strong kick to the back of his head with the action pushing her even further into the air. Upon landing, she pushed her overheat up again, her skin's glow returning and her claws brightening to white. While Fate's advantage lay in her sheer offensive might and speed, Gawain's lay in defensive prowess and a tactical mind. So Fate's next charge dipped and weaved, feinting another charging strike to his torso or head. Instead Fate dropped to the ground and slid between his legs, each super-heated hand reaching out to grab a foot and tear it off the ground. The immediate follow up was not another attempted pounce, but instead a jump back up, her right foot landing upon his left ankle before she bounced back. With his semblance he could easily control where in the battlefield Fate had access to, so attempting to not pour all her efforts into one form of attack was the tactically superior option. Fate, currently, only cared about winning and tactical superiority, her emotions literally disabled to clear her mind.

Her adaptation was also a skill that deserved credit. Using his sword as a way to knock her down would've worked on any slower, less agile opponent, but against F.A.T.E, the attack backfired. Watching her lift her entire body with just his sword was a tremendous feat, but Gawain didn't have time to compliment her as he had to carry her weight with the weapon. Dropping to the ground with the sudden addition of immense weight, Gawain was surprised when she leaped away, only to deliver a deadly kick to his head. The blow was enough to knock him completely down to the ground, face first. He could almost feel his nose break at the crash, but no matter, he had to keep pressing on. If he could continue to move his arms, legs, and body to his will, then he'd continue to fight.
Drawing his sword up to act as a crutch, Gawain turned to face his opponent, already noticing her mid-charge. Quickly wiping his nose with his left hand, he readied himself in a lower stance, noting her own low charge. Her body was once more burning with the violent heat of her Semblance, denoting her readiness for an all-out assault. His offensive charge was lost, and he was already back on defense. Still, such a situation was combat. Adapting to whatever situation, whatever opponent, whatever environment the combatant was in was typical. As such, Gawain had to adapt fast or he'd lose.
Watching her slide in for an attack, however, was not a situation he imagined he'd be in. Normally any grounded situation was dangerous, but F.A.T.E knew how to adapt as well. Grabbing his feet and pulling them straight off the ground was a successful attempt; however, Gawain's body didn't fall completely. Stabbing his sword into the ruined arena, he managed to avoid falling face-first into the ground again, but the next attack hit hard. With his boot barely mitigating the damage, Gawain stumbled for a moment as he stood, retrieving his sword and facing his opponent with a heavy pant. She succeeded with two attacks in a row; one towards his head and one towards his ankle, one to ruin breathing and almost succeed with a knockout while the other reducing maneuverability. The swordsman found himself in a grave situation.
Standing with his sword by his right side, held by his right hand, Gawain's left foot would have to make minimum movements, anything heavily reliant on agility would surely break it beyond use for then. As for any more head hits, he could probably be knocked out in a few more; he just needed to avoid being hit, hopefully. But, with the two of them at an equal standing, and his situation already worsening on the defense, he needed to attack. Even with her speed, even with her offensive capabilities, she didn't know all of Gawain's tactics.
Exhaling through his mouth, inhaling through his nose, Gawain focused his eyes on his opponent before taking a running stance with his sword. His Glyphs were primarily used for defense, but they had their uses on offense. Sprinting directly at F.A.T.E, Gawain raised his left hand as his body began to glow white. He could adapt to her if she decided to engage on him as well, so he just had to think one step ahead of her. Placing a slanted Glyph to the left of their perceived collision spot, Gawain continued to charge forward, raising his sword for an attack, but, just before he lowered it, before he even gave her a chance to counter or evade, he feinted and kicked off towards his Glyph. He placed enough strength into his right foot for the jump, allowing him to make it to his Glyph and then leap once more at his opponent, going for a jumping strike, only for his landing to be right in front of her. However, he didn't plan on that attack working.
Gawain swung his left hand once more, tossing a Glyph directly in front of her of where he'd strike. Her quick reactions would've evaded and countered that attack, so he had to feint once more just to be sure. Landing on the ground in front of her, Gawain weaved to his left before striking in an upward motion at his opponent, cutting both arena and hopefully her. His tactic was risky, but he could only hope that every piece of it worked.

Fate watched her attacks land one after the other, though she took no joy in it. Instead after bouncing away from landing upon Gawain's ankles, Fate decided to observe and determine her next course of action. As he took his posture, breathed deeply, and charged, Fate knew he had to be planning something, something game changing. So when he bounced off a few glyphs into the air, Fate was concerned about the incoming strike. Not because it was dangerous, frankly she could've dodged it by doing something as easy as taking a single step in any direction. But that was what triggered her cybernetic brain's processes, the attack was too easy to dodge. It was almost like he didn't care about the actual attack, only the act of forcing her back and onto the defensive. The most likely reason was either a new trick or a devastating follow up attack, but Fate could only prepare for one option. So what to do when someone has a plan reliant on a failed first attack? Simple.
You let the first attack land.
Fate reached her right hand into the air as Gawain fell, not moving from her spot and following his fall with her gaze. As the sword came down it impacted her outstretched hand, her systems reading the impact and bruising her skin accordingly. Even still, Fate couldn't feel pain at the moment, so she held it there, the full force of the impact causing another spiderweb of fissures to spread from the android's feet as she dipped a little deeper into the dirt. She watched her aura levels rapidly deplete, going from reasonably high to well below half in a single blow. A worthy sacrifice, better to lose a large amount of aura that you know about then lose an indeterminate amount that you can't see coming. As Gawain dropped further down from the impact Fate pulled what was likely the dirtiest and cheapest fighting trick in the book, though none can deny its effectiveness. Raising her knee straight between his legs she aimed to combine the upward force of her rising knee with the downward force of his fall in a blow straight to her opponent's groin. Following that she reached out her left hand and curled her claws into his chest, after doing so aiming downward and throwing Gawain into the ground with as much force as possible. She would not lose this fight, and Fate was programmed to resort to any means to win a battle.

His face widened at her simple yet insane block. He couldn't believe that she took the entire force of his strike with just her hand. Anyone else would've braced for the impact or dodged, but she instead stood there, fearless, and took the blade with just her hand. Gawain didn't act; he didn't move a single inch from his spot. His hands were locked on his blade, and his eyes stared straight at his opposition. F.A.T.E had no fear at all; she was ready to give anything up to win in the battle. Gawain was amazed by her desire to win, but he knew that all it was was mechanical thinking. She had no concern for her health and the only goal set before her was to win. F.A.T.E would do anything to win, anything.
Gasping for air, the boy lowered his gaze, seeing her knee placed right between his legs. She had no honor, no respect; she was truly inhumane, a machine. She only desired to win; she only wanted to reach the top. Perhaps, Gawain should have given up a long time ago, but he had a goal of his own. He didn't want to win nor did he want to lose, but he wanted to show to himself that he was going to give the battle his all until he couldn't go anymore. No matter what attack she threw, no matter what situation she put him in, he wasn't going to give up until he was unconscious. He didn't care if it was the adrenaline rush or pure survival instincts, but he believed that that was his goal.
Grinding his teeth together, bearing through every bit of pain surging through his body, Gawain tossed himself straight at F.A.T.E, ignoring the claws thrust straight into his body. There was blood, a lot of blood; he could feel the liquid rush through his lungs to find escape, but he wasn't finished yet. Taking hold of her neck with his left hand, he pushed his entire body against the earthen arena, leaping straight at his opponent, aiming to push her down even if she dared to push him as well. His right hand drove his sword away from hers, not daring to give up the fight before he made one final blow. Sliding his right hand underneath her left arm, Gawain drove his sword through her stomach without regret. She was a robot, an inhumane object that could be rebuilt; as for him, he couldn't. He didn't have a second life, he didn't have another chance to live, to make friends, to laugh. He had to make everything count, no matter what.
No matter who fell first, Gawain or F.A.T.E, the boy's expression showed true dedication to his cause. The battle wasn't over until her systems rendered her unmovable or his body stopped moving.

Fate simply stared as his hands closed around her throat, pushing his sword between her defenses. The throat was nothing more than a good hold place though, as she had no need to breathe. That being said, the sword driving through her stomach was unavoidable and she fell to the ground pulling Gawain with her. Her clothes tore around the blade as it ran straight through her aura and into her stomach. The last of her aura dissipated and though it slowed the strike down, the sword still went in one side and out the other. Her systems poured artificial blood from the sudden hole in her chest, the wound causing her non essential systems to shut down. Her semblance died down and her breathing stopped, as it was purely aesthetic, but it would not bring her down immediately. The anger she would have felt was so great that a slight twitch in her eye made it through her safeguards, and her follow up was as aggressive as she started. Tearing his hand off the sword still embedded in her body she rolled on top of him. Each knee pinned down an arm as Fate lunged both claws at her opponents throat, intent to tear out his jugular and end this fight once and for all. An acute eye would've noticed that her semblance was still active for a moment after her aura shattered, indicative of the fact it did not pull upon her aura.
Ding ding ding ding!
Fate's hand stopped an inch before Gawain's throat, registering the bell as the end of the fight. The claws were a few breaths away from his throat, another second and they would've sunk deep into the tissue. Her safeguards read that she was no longer in combat and shut down, emotion flooding back into the android. The first thing she felt was pain, a mild throbbing in her skull that was nothing compared to the roaring, searing pain in her stomach. There was a sword sticking through it, and it hurt like hell. Getting off her opponent, her claws retracted and she offered him a helping hand to get up. Sure she was pissed, but it was a tournament, she had no justifiable reason to be angry at him for trying to win. It was exactly what she was doing. "Well fought Gawain." The words had no malice behind them, no ulterior motive, and no anger. They were truly just a compliment, and an honest one at that. Looking down at the sword in her stomach she grimaced again, sighing and shaking her head. "I will make sure this gets back to you. I simply do not wish to remove it in the middle of the arena and bleed out. I would rather have it removed in the infirmary, where I can heal in a timely manner. After that I assure you it will be delivered back to you." With that Fate began strolling out of the arena, sword still impaled into her stomach and making her way to the infirmary. That was one hell of a first fight, and Fate only hoped they got more intense. After all, she was designed as a super fighting robot, so while she disliked unnecessary violence, she did enjoy a good brawl.

With his single rebellion, Gawain hoped that the fight was over, but as he was soon overturned, he knew that his end was there. She finally had him where she wanted him all the fight: pinned on the ground with no way at escaping. Nevertheless, he had to fight back until the very end. He was already anyway: his blood escaping from his body through his mouth and the holes in his chest. His body was surely going to be a bloody mess by the time she finished him or he finished her. Reaching for her hands to stop the fatal attack, Gawain mustered all of his dying strength to stop her. She was surely running on fumes, but so was he. Either one of them was going to die out at that point, and Gawain refused to give her any inch towards her victory.
But, no definite victor came. There was the bell, signaling the end of their battle. F.A.T.E's hands stopped just before her claws reached their mark. He would've died then and there for sure, but he was still alive, luckily. As she stepped off of him, the boy's hands fell to the grassy concrete below him. There was practically a puddle of blood where he lie, a mixture of both his and hers. Panting with a mouth full of blood, Gawain could barely reach the lingering hand as he struggled to stand up. He pushed his body to its limits to succeed, and there he stood bloodied with his armor ruined, but he proved to himself that he did his utter best. Either in victory or lost, he at least proved to himself that that was his best.
Coughing out a significant amount of blood, Gawain smiled for a moment as his opponent, understanding her words and her own compliment. He nodded to show his appreciation as well; he would've said something if he could, but he just couldn't. Even though she was a machine, fighting against live bodies in a tournament, there were no absolute rules in his book against that. F.A.T.E fought like a human running on their natural instincts like he himself did, and there wasn't anything wrong with that. She earned his respect through their fight, and if she won, then he'd be there, watching her during her next battle. If he won, then he could only expect that F.A.T.E would continue improving.
Waving one last good-bye, the boy turned his back to her and limped his way out of the arena. With his ankle practically broken, chest pierced, head damaged, blood dripping along his path, Gawain carried his battle marks with a simple smile, knowing that their battle just pushed him one step closer to his goal.
