It was time for the next round.
Amara paced back and forth just outside the arena, the anticipation for the fight drilling at her psyche as if intent on driving her mad. Her last fight had not gone as she hoped, but resulted in her victory either way. Unlike the last round, Amara’s weapon - Lacrimosa - was ready to go right away. It had since been cleaned up and polished, mostly out of Amara’s desire to keep it looking neat and fashionable. When the time came and the names were announced, she let out a quiet yawn before making her way to the arena floor. Like the last fight, the people who had come to watch her participate cheered and whistled as she entered the middle of the middle of the arena. “Hey guys!” She cheered out to the crowd, her voice gleeful and full of confidence. She was ready, and hoped her opponent was too.
The playing field this time around was a little different. Half ocean, half Forever Fall. Amara had, luckily, experienced some of the former. The Fall, though? She had never been to Vale, so she had never seen such a place before. The red trees and grass were interesting, a result of an odd powder produced by the trees - if she was remembering her classes right. With one last wave to the crowd, Amara eyeballed the head-shot of her opponent that loomed over the battlefield next to hers. Maeva was her name, eh? Hopefully she fought well enough to give Amara a run for her money. She was bored with some of the fights she had observed so far. Just nothing necessarily exhilarating, most fights ending somewhat anticlimactically with either poorly executed finishes or one of the combatants rolling over like a kicked puppy.
Not Amara, though. If Maeva wanted to win, she was going to have to all but kill the girl that hailed from Haven Academy. Strutting arrogantly to one side of the arena, Amara prepared herself for the fight to come. It was sure to be one hell of an experience.

Maeva was hyped for her next fight for more than one reason. First, it aught to happen differently than the last one. Secondly, she wasn't fighting someone she knew, either from Syne or in general as it was someone from the main schools. Determined to fight to her full capabilities in order to represent Bellmuse, the blue-haired girl stood proud as she walked inside the crowded arena that was cheering for the two opposing students. Waving back at them with a huge smile on her face, the mouse faunus made sure with a quick glance that her tail was well hidden before facing her adversary.
Examining her opponent, Mae didn't really know what to think. Was she supposed to try to find weaknesses or do nothing and just enjoy the fight as it would go? She wasn't the type to really plan anything and just go with the flow of things, both while fighting and in life in general, so she didn't bother too long with analyzing and simply waved at the other girl before looking around her to have a look of the terrain.
Seeing the ocean, Maeva immediately told herself to avoid it, as she had no idea of how she would be able to fight in a plain mass of water without any solid footing. Turning her eyes to the unusual hued forest, she immediately smiled. It wasn't the first unique forest she had seen as Syne was surrounded by woods of only blues, the Finnek Forest. It was very similar to Forever Fall from what she had read, only differences were that the trees in Finnek weren't falling all year around and of course the obvious colors of the leaves that painted those different woods.
Looking back at her opponent, apparently named Amara, Mae decided to not fear to use any of her masks for this fight as she heard that one of the other contestant wore an outfit that had similarities to Grimms and that no one bothered with it, so she didn't have to fear about how she would be perceived with her Semblance active. So wanting to be ready, the blue-haired girl put on her mask of the Eye and had a vial of fire dust hidden in her sleeve as she stood ready for the fight to begin.

So this was Amara’s opponent, huh?
The girl’s off-colored eyes observed Maeva carefully from the other side of the arena. In her mind, she was already going through different tactics she could use to wear down her opponent’s defenses and bring the fight to a swift end. This wasn’t to say she would make the fight boring, however. Amara had been bored by the last two rounds, almost disappointed by the performance of the other schools. Some of her own peers from Haven had let her down, in fact. It was one of those things she couldn’t help but shake her head at. Did people forget that this was a tournament? Whoever won was going to be recognized throughout all of Remnant. No way Amara was going to pass up an opportunity for that kind of fame.
Call it arrogance, if you will. Amara didn’t care, and would likely accept such a conclusion.
As Maeva took to her end of the field, Amara readied herself for the match to begin. Arming Lacrimosa, she took a boxer-like pose and began hopping between her feet. She was ready. She was pumped. As the buzzer went off signaling the beginning of the fight, Amara made her way towards the red-hued trees. She ignored a chance to attack Maeva, instead keeping her eye on the girl from Syne in case she decided to make an attack of her own. Hopefully the girl brought her A-game, because that was the only kind of game Amara played. The mask the girl wore was an odd thing, something Amara had never seen before.
“What’s up, girly?” Amara shouted out from the trees. “Got yourself a blemish or something?”

Maeva's mask, as it was brought to her face, began to close itself, going all around the girl's head to become more akin to a full helm than a mask. The movements of the object looked nearly organic, as if it crawl around her face before leaving only her blue hair exit the headwear. Turning to face Amara with the piercing single eye of the mask at the question, Mae began to run towards the forest as well, but not in the same direction as her opponent and was more moving in parallel to her before answering. "My masks are not used to hide my face from you, they serve as my greatest weapon!" With that the mouse faunus broke down a vial of wind dust that she was holding in her left hand, imbuing her body with its essence while she shone in a yellow glow. The eye of the mask was glowing the brightest as all the light converged on the center of the headgear before firing a devastating beam of concentrated wind that tore down the trees in its path.
Aiming just a little forward of Amara in an attempt to hit her while moving, Maeva's beam, that wasn't even 10 inches wide, began to shrink in size before dissipating along with her shiny glow. Continuing her run in the forest, the blue-haired girl hid behind a tree for a second before using her chainwhip to grab a branch above her to launch herself in the air. Staring down in the direction in which she last saw the other girl, the potent golden shining of her aura came anew before she fired once again, tracing arcs in the red woods in order to raze down some trees while hoping to do anything to Amara, be it hit her directly with the beam or with a falling tree, or maybe even intimidate her. Anything was good as long as Mae wasn't hurt in return.

Watching her opponent dash off into the red trees, Amara grinned proudly. All she would have to do is keep her eye out and maintain her current pace, hopefully an opening to make an attack would follow. As Maeva responded to Amara’s taunt, the latter’s grin changed to an excited smile. ‘Greatest weapon, huh?’ Amara thought to herself. While she hadn’t paid much attention to what Maeva was doing in her neck of the woods, the sudden yellow glow was quick to grab Amara’s full attention. Then, the light seemed to almost focus around the girl’s eye, and a beam of channeled Dust energy fired off through the trees. It may have just been wind, but Amara had grown up in the deserts of Vacuo and later the mountains of Mistral - she knew how deadly wind could be.
Digging her heels into the ground, Amara slid almost to a complete stop before activating the boots of Lacrimosa. The explosive force of the Dust in said boots propelled her backwards and out of the way of the beam’s impact. Trees and soil were shredded in the attack’s path, and for a moment Amara felt like she might be in over her head. Using the smoke and dust now flowing throughout the battlefield as cover, she began making her way towards the source of the first wind-charged beam to fly across the battlefield. She had lost sight of her opponent, not a good sign. ‘Dammit.’ She cursed to herself. Still, Amara maintained her pursuit of her target. No way this girl would be getting away that easily.
Then she saw it, a familiar glow. This time, however, it was looming above the forest in the air.
Amara’s eyes focused on Maeva, keeping most of her attention on the eye of the girl’s mask as it prepared to unleash another beam. Once it finally fired, Amara knew what to do. Still presumably hidden among the chaos in the forest, Amara activated the Kinetic Dust in her necklace, giving her the slight boost needed to dash to the side and avoid being taken out be the beam or the destruction left in its path. The sound was absolutely dreadful, and had Amara not trained so diligently around explosives, there was a good chance it might have rattled her. Unfortunately for Maeva, that was not the case. All these factors played in to the strategy Amara formulated when she saw the first blast.
It had been a split second since she dashed out of the way, which she hastily followed up to by using her boots to propel herself in the air. The cover of the destructive wake followed by its sound muffling out her boots should give her an edge. At least, that was her rationale. She didn’t hesitate from there, though. As soon as Amara broke from the smoke raising from the trees, she fired off four rounds from Lacrimosa’s gauntlets - four bullets imbued with the explosive powers of Fire and Pink Dust - capable of delivering decent amounts of damage from mid or close range. Amara didn’t care how close she was, instead she wanted to land some sort of hit. Hopefully, whatever bit of focus might have had to go into these attacks would give her that slight opening she needed.

Still in midair after her attacks, Maeva tried her best to find where her opponent was hiding. Last time she saw her was right before her first beam when Amara escaped in a blast of dirt and smoke. In her current position, the blue haired girl would definitively be an easy target, especially since her bright glows were extremely hard to miss. There was no way that her foe was already coming for her and had something planned. Not expecting Amara to come out of the branches to level in the air as she didn't hear the launch of the boots, the mouse faunus was the target of a barrage of Dust that seemed rather powerful. Using her arms to shield herself from the multiple projectiles, her left one more up front, Mae began to charge the last shot of wind dust that was at her disposal but she wanted to be sure that this one would land. Enduring the blast of the dust attacks that managed to hit her, she swung her right arm towards her opponent and unleashed her chainwhip in an attempt to get a hold of Amara. Since both of them were in midair it wouldn't be easy to maneuver away from anything, still not impossible though.
It wasn't really to bring her closer, but more to have a clear direction in which to aim her beam if the other girl decided to move. Even she she decided to go down towards the woods to hide from sight, Mae just had to shoot towards the line her chainwhip would make to know where her target was. The golden glow associated with her current mask began to manifest itself and without too much delay fired it's dangerous wave of wind in the current direction that her weapon was leading her, wrecking havoc in its wake. After that, the blue haired girl reeled her weapon back before going back into the "safety" of the woods while removing her current mask and running away from her position. After a short moment, she placed her mask of the Eye back on her left sleeve with the others before picking the Beast one. Panting a bit as the attack from her opponent didn't go unnoticed, the faunus wondered what would have happened if those shot would have been at point blank. Surely she would have been knocked out cold already. She has been lucky that she was attacked from a certain range.
Getting ready for the next potential assault, Maeva put on her Beast mask, her legs and her head began to shift into a wolf-like shape while her mouse tail that was slowly coming out from hiding gain wolf-like features as well. It was the strategy she would follow for now, it seemed that Amara was someone that could move fast, so she would need to match her speed if the blue haired girl hoped to win. Something was telling her however that it would be anything but easy.

Amara winced as her opponent managed to block some of the rounds fired off. Though some had hit there mark, Amara had expected to do much more damage to her opponent than she did. No matter, though. She knew exactly what she would do. The good ol’ fashioned follow up. As she prepared to deliver another barrage of explosive energy from Lacrimosa, Amara was surprised by the whip from her opponent as it wrapped around one of her arms. It was a matter of seconds, her brain first processing that she had been snagged, then coming to the sudden realization that Maeva was now preparing to unleash another beam from her mask. It was one of the first times in a long while that Amara felt a little frightened.
It was another second or so where her brain finally processed a response to her predicament. Her eyes narrowed as the blast of wind flew in her direction. While her breathing became much more controlled, she activated her boots once again, sending her upward. She then let the force of the blast beneath her propel her body upward. Not tugging up on the chain allowed it to keep a little slack, allowing her to maintain some distance between herself and Maeva. Taking that to her advantage, Amara flexed her body to pirouette, allowing her arm to freely slip from the chains. Her eyes fixed on Maeva once more, this time activating two rounds from each boot to almost triple her dropping speed - right in Maeva’s direction.
Mere seconds had passed between the time Amara’s arm had been caught, the time it took her to boost to her opponent seem infinitesimal. The second powerful barrage from her gauntlets followed, pouring every last round she had into bringing her opponent back to the floor. She zipped past Maeva, careening to the forest floor beneath them. She crashed through the tops of the red trees, bouncing off the branches until eventually landing on the reddened earth at the bottom. Crawling slowly to her feet, Amara checked her limbs for any sign of injury. Nothing was broken, or so she thought. There was a sprained left wrist, though, as well as a gash in the same arm and right leg. Other than that, she was just dirty.
Pulling two ammo belts from her waist, Amara reloaded her weapons before dashing in the direction of the ocean area of the arena.

Maeva glared at her opponent as she managed to dodge the focused wind beam without too much effort, leaving her with all of her wind dust serving no purpose other than wrecking havoc in the red forest. She really didn't like the way the fight was going right now as she did literally nothing to Amara in term of damage. The blue haired girl had to turn this around someway. As she was grounded and that her Beast mask was now on with also the lack of destructive sound all around to distract her, the faunus could easily hear the explosive propelled dash of the other girl. Without taking any second to look for where she was coming from, Mae used the nearby tree and pushed with her legs against it to launch herself out of harm way towards another tree. It was a good idea as she noticed only after that not only did the girl came herself down, but she was behind a barrage of dust shot similar the the other one that she launched at the blue haired girl earlier.
With her increased speed that her mask was giving her, Mae used to next tree to launch herself toward another, then another one to finally launch herself towards her opponent with her wolf-like legs forward. Hoping to use the time that Amara was using to recover from her harsh landing to hit her, the faunus didn't want to take any chances and used her chainwhip while she was still in the air to lash towards her opponent's legs in order to trip her and stop her from leaving the woods. She could have the advantage there, so she didn't want to leave it for a more open area.

Run, Amara! Run!
Her heart was pounding as she continued for the ocean area of the field. It sounded like she was getting a good head start, having finally broken through the trees by the time she heard Maeva in pursuit. She was kind of expecting to make a little more distance, though, and she grimaced at the thought of actually being caught. Her mind raced through potential answers as to where to go next, analyzing the most likely responses and which one would be the most beneficial in the end. Amara knew exactly what to do. At the sound of the chain whip being sent out from behind her, Amara listened intently for the sound of it cutting through the air.Just when it was at its loudest, she juked to the side and gripped onto the whip. The electrical Dust in her earrings activated, pulsing a powerful electrical shock up the whip to Maeva.
Following up, Amara used some rounds from her gauntlets and boots to build her momentum. She then dug her heels into the earth, throwing her arms up in a circular motion to hurl Maeva towards the water. A second pulse of electricity soon followed, intent on dealing another powerful blow to her opponent. In the off chance Maeva managed to let go, thus preventing herself from the impending attack, Amara had another trick up her sleeve. Her gauntlets armed to throw another powerful volley at the Syne student, while her boots prepared to fire for an effective counter-attack. Though things were getting heated, Amara knew that this match was just getting started. Both contestants were capable fighters, and they were proving it to all of Remnant.
Amara wasn’t interested in that, though.
She wanted to be the strongest - and no one was going to take that away from her.

It seemed like Mae's plan to keep Amara in the woods had completely failed and they both instead got closer to the ocean half of the arena, which only made the blue haired girl wonder how her opponent wanted to fight in that area. It's not like any of them had a clear advantage in that kind of terrain unless Amara's boots could work underwater.
Unfortunately for Maeva, her thoughts were quickly brought to an end when the electric shock had traveled all the way from Amara to her from her weapon. Breaking into a fit of loud and painful screams, the faunus could do anything and was at her opponent's mercy, giving no resistance at all for when she was thrown away like a simple weight. Still affected by the previous attack, the blue haired girl had a hard time to not think about the pain and just think of what to do next. She just instinctively reeled her weapon in to avoid any other shock to happen but it was too late, the second one had been launched and hit its mark, causing the girl to once more scream her heart out from the intense pain.
Been thrown in the water though and causing a loud splash noise, helped her a bit as the water dispersed the electricity throughout the arena's ocean which limited the impact a long exposure to high voltage could do. Still, she had been shocked twice and now was slowly sinking, half awake and not noticing right away where she was. Chocking on water when she tried to breath, Mea quickly regain consciousness and just desperately needed air. Swimming as fast as she could, using her oversized wolf legs and her tail to propel herself faster if possible, the blue haired girl's head popped out of the water, coughing and gasping for air while she looked around for where her opponent was standing. Not liking the idea of anymore potential electric attack especially in the water and surely soaked when out, Mae tried to get as fast as possible out of there by swimming towards the center of the arena where no specific terrain was set.
That's when Mae remembered that she had other dust vials with her. Picking up her water one and focusing for a bit, the blue haired girl lifted herself up using a waterspout that she manage to create. It didn't last long though, but it was enough to launch her out of the water and towards the plain part of the battlefield. Landing in safely with water from the liquid tornado that covered a small portion of the middle area, the faunus used some fire dust around her to make all the water quickly evaporate to create a thick fog all around while also drying her up. She knew how painful being electrocuted was, she didn't want to be all soaked if it was to happen again. Hiding in the fog for now, Mae waited for her opponent to do something while thinking of her next approach.

Things were going a little better than she expected.
Watching her opponent crash into the water, Amara let out a heavy sigh of relief. It wasn’t over yet, but the two jolts she had sent through Maeva’s whip managed to hit their mark, which put Amara at an advantage - or at least she thought so. Easing up a bit, Amara watched the area where Maeva had made her splash, watching for any signs of the girl on the surface. Time went by, and for a moment Amara debated whether or not she’d have to dive in and rescue her. The screams Maeva had let out from the electrocution made her worry, for a second, that perhaps she had overdone it a little. However, bubbling on the surface brought back a sense of calm.
Maeva was conscious at least, meaning the fight was still on. With her weapons ready, Amara braced for some sort of attack from the depths. The blue-haired girl’s head broke the surface, a sight that forced a genuine smirk from Amara. She was happy that things had not taken a darker turn. As she prepared to call out to the girl in the water, she was cut of by a sudden waterspout throwing the other girl into the air. Her mind instantly switched back to battle mode, taking a ready stance as she kept her eye on Maeva and where she was heading. The task was made a little more difficult by the sudden addition of fire, which caused a thick steam that then became a fog over some of the battlefield. Still, Amara did her best to keep her eye on her target.
Fire had a glow, one that was noticeable among the mist. Amara followed the light until it disappeared, then focused on that direction. Fog was not a new element to her, having trained consistently in the swamps of Mistral. If there was anything that made her nervous about fog, it was the idea of a Grimm jumping out of nowhere. Luckily, that wasn’t something she had to worry about here. Before getting too close to where she believed her opponent might have been, Amara came to a sudden stop before dropping her boot heavily on the ground. The combination of explosive and wind Dust created a powerful burst, blowing a significant portion of the fog away from the immediate area.
“Sorry, love!” Amara snickered with a playful tone. “But you’re gonna have to resort to something other than cheap tricks of you’re going to last in this fight!"

Of course Maeva wouldn't have stayed where Amara last saw her. If there was one thing that any type of smoke screen was useful for was moving without being noticed or at least reduced visibility. The blue haired girl didn't really worried about losing her sight in the fog as being a faunus granted her a better hearing than humans, so she was using the sound that her opponent's clunky boots were making to know where she was. Using the speed that her Beast mask was giving her to circle around the other girl like a predator hunting it's prey and with her bestial silhouette could be seen as a beofulf, Mae would try to get behind Amara before hooking the tip of her chainwhip to the ground before charging as silently as possible towards her opponent and do a quick spin on herself to give her a tail swipe at leg level. The faunus girl would continue on her motion and go back into the fog on the other side before creating a small pillar of earth dust and using it to wrap her chain around it before going in for another quick attack at her opponent, this time going in for a kick with her powerful legs before going back in the fog.
Maeva would do this five times and with great speed with her mask, leaving her chainwhip in a pentagram shape in the circle without the steam cloud with earth pillars hidden in the fog at each point while the chain would form a complex tripwire system. The pillars weren't anything large really and even looked feeble where the chain was wrapped around them but had two purposes that would maybe or maybe not serve, but Mae preferred to be safe if she wanted any small chance to win this fight. Talking about being safe, Mae decided to take the time to change mask now while there was still fog covering her and switched to her Bird one that would help her deal with the dust-based attack of Amara.

At least her opponent was no fool! Grinning proudly, Amara looked around for any signs of her opponent, who had retreated into the remaining fog despite best efforts to blow it away. Combat in the swamps, in the mountains, it was all just like this. Her breathing remained quiet and controlled, her eyes warily scanning the fog for any indication of movement. Light pattering of feet could be heard some distance away, bu the echoing of it through Amara off more than anything. She needed something more, something not as spontaneous as footsteps. Tightening her first, she braced herself for an oncoming attack in the case she wasn’t able to face it head on.
Then, she heard it. Like a chime from heaven, the familiar sound of Maeva’s chain.1 Amara’s head cocked to the direction of the sound, and she eyed the silhouette of her opponent coming through the fog. Her smirk became a little more twisted as her sense of pride was puffed up. That a girl, ‘Mara. She said, reinforcing herself. Her Aura began to flare, her muscles becoming loose but heavier. All her senses worked in tandem as she watched Maeva lunging at her. It felt like things as she perceived them were moving in slow motion, her focus finally locking on to the girl coming to attack her. Her image was crisp among a grainy backdrop.
This was Amara’s Semblance. This was Lacrimosa.
As Mae initiated her first slide, Amara caught her with blurring speed. One punch, then another, and another. Her speed was mind-boggling, delivering blow after blow with enough speed and force to slowly push back the fog. Fifteen seconds in, the crowd got their first peek at the battle since the fog had settled. From her peers, shock and awe. Amara had a reputation for the raw power and insane speed that accompanied her Semblance. Lacrimosa left her foes in tears - pounding every last bit of morale from them. In the span of thirty seconds, Amara threw a whopping forty-five explosive punches. In the span of forty-five seconds, Amara had grown intent on bringing this battle to a climactic close.
1: This is an Interrupt, targeting Maeva’s first attempt to perform a leg-swipe.

As Maeva was moving towards her opponent to begin an attack, she saw through the fog a pair of glowing eyes that were darting in her direction. She couldn't tell for sure, but she had the strong feeling that what was waiting for her there wasn't going to be good at all. The moment that the blue haired faunus came out of the fog and saw the other girl with her aura flaring, she wanted to stop her motion and go back where she came from as she knew she wouldn't like what was coming for her. Using her anchored chain, Mae began to reel herself back to the spot where the tip of her weapon was panted, but at the speed she dashed forward, she wouldn't be able to get back there immediately and unscathed.
As Amara began to throw her punches at her, Mae was just beginning to move backward. They were fast, they were strong and they wee numerous. The few that managed to hit the mouse girl were quite enough to let her know that if she hadn't done anything to move out of the way she would have probably lied down on the floor already. Fortunately for her she got out of it, now only feeling the strong wind that the punches were causing and not the punches themselves. Some of the shouts coming from the ground at that moment would probably have been of surprise as the blue haired girl was still standing, or rather kneeling but still on one piece so far, which was good news. She had taken in between three to six hits, she wasn't sure with how quick they were but she knew for sure that it was enough.
Using her maneuver to stay away from Amara as much as possible, Maeva kept her distance by jumping backward while she was switching mask, going back to her Eye one. Even though she would lose the speed her Beast mask was giving her, she had to try to go for an attack as powerful as she could manage if she hoped to win this. Using the time her opponent was focusing on punching, the blue haired girl readied some fire dust on one hand and earth dust in the other. While charging her mask with the fire one, she used the earth dust to manifest a large pillar right underneath Amara, hoping to launch her upward and taking her by surprise before unleashing a concentrated beam of fire dust directly at her. If this wouldn't work, then Mae had no idea what could save her at this point.
