While most other competitors had been running around doing whatever they wanted while waiting for the tournament to begin, Teale Fiorella had been practicing. She had only just recovered from the wounds she had earned during her first date with her girlfriend a while back, and unfortunately couldn't fix Holy Trinity. So, ever since it had broken, Teale had been fixing and training with the weapons she had found during initiation. Avalon and Olwen. The blade and shield were currently in place on her arm as she stepped into the main area of the arena, looking around as she watched the environment readers randomize through their choices. Her red, gothic dress fluttering in the breeze as she tugged at the bow with her free hand. She didn't know what the Arena was going to throw at her. She had prepared by wearing one of her dust-enhanced dresses, deciding on taking the fire based one. Avalon was currently loaded up with earth dust, and she had made sure to rest properly the night before.
So, all that was left was to actually get down to business. She started tightening the straps of her shield a bit more tightly, drawing her blade to check the smoothness of the draw before sheathing it again as she looked to her opponent, shifting from side to side as she waited for the arena to be determined. This was most likely going to be a difficult battle, and she was going to be prepared for it. She wasn't going to be the first one knocked out of the bracket. She wouldn't bring that kind of shame to herself, or to her team. She had to win here. She just had to.

Where some students might have spent the days leading up to the tournament practicing, Aegle had made no overt efforts to alter her own training regime. Part of the reason for this was that she felt her training regime to be more than sufficient, whether she was about to participate in a full contact fighting competition or not. The main reason, however, had more to do with her desire to experience as much of the tournament as possible. After all, Aegle had never been invited to participate in a large scale tournament before, so pretty much everything, including the lead up to the first fights, had been new to her. Also new to her, obviously, was the precise feeling which came with standing in the middle of a packed stadium. She couldn't help but smile as she scanned the stands rising up on all sides of the arena, marvelling at the idea that so many people had come to watch her fight. "Woooow..." The orange haired girl sighed as a slow pirouette moved her gaze, full circle, over the whole of the gathered audience. "There are so many of them." there was a hint of sincere surprise and even appreciation in her voice, and a look of wonderment on her face. Catching movement on the far side of the arena, Aegle's sharp emerald eyes fell upon her opponent for the first time, who was really hard to miss given the volatile shade of red she wore.
So far as first impressions went, Aegle probably could have made a better one.
"Yooooo~!" Voice scything through silence like a shrill thunderclap, the small girl waved her free hand high over the stiff peak of her virulently orange Mohawk, while a shockingly broad grin threatened to split her face in two. She was a full foot shorter than Teale, even with extra height her ridiculous hairstyle afforded her, and had somehow contrived to be even skinnier than the already skinny Valient. Granted, Aegle had also contrived to hide her sickly lack of body mass with a hoody and pair of cargo pants clearly intended for someone both taller and heavier than she. The hoody in question was the same shade of eye burning orange as her obnoxious Mohawk, and distinct in that it was also as voluminous as a tent. Someone, in a bout of mad inspiration, had tried to ornament it with innumerable strips of what was plainly black electrical tape, the apparent goal of which had been to make Aegle look like a walking caution sign. Dropping her waving hand suddenly, Aegle cupped the side of her mouth to better project her shouting across the arena. "I love your hair!" She screeched excitedly, right before the terrain began shifting all around them. "Huh..." the pint sized Atlesian mused, turning in place to take in the changing landscape. "Guess we're gonna start."
Turning back towards her opponent, Aegle's wolfish grin spread, once more, across her diminutive face. "My name's Aegle!" She yelled at Teale as she unlimbered what appeared to be a metal suitcase from where it had been hanging over her shoulder. Indelicately dropping it on the ground behind her, she next tapped a button on the case's front with the heel of her steel capped boot. "S'a pleasure to meetcha!" Aegle continued while case unfolded into an alarmingly angular contraption behind her. It whirred quietly and clanked occasionally as pieces of it fitted together, before finally settling on a vaguely humanoid outline with outstretched arms and spread feet. After one final, high pitched mechanical screech, a quiet tone came from the device and prompted Aegle to take a single step back, arms outstretched. Two loud clanks thudded through the arena as steel encased Aegle's feet and shins, followed by a quick succession of clicks as the same thing happened to her hands and forearms. Having gained close to six inches in height, Aegle redirected her gaze from Teale to the huge metal spikes at the end of each of her arms. Flexing her fingers, the spikes both split into three individual claws, then slammed back together with a resonant clanging sound. Satisfied, Aegle returned her attention to her opponent, her emerald eyes having lost none of the manic intensity. "I hope you enjoy this as much as I will!" She yelled eagerly, scarcely able to contain herself.
And that was all the warning that Aegle gave her opponent. With alacrity which could scarcely be expected from someone wearing so much metal, The Oupis propelled Aegle skyward with a single, powerful leap, directed straight at where Teale was standing. It was an attack whose directness was matched only by the considerable destructive power it brought to bare, for the two upraised claws that were Aegle's hands promised nothing but utter destruction for anything unfortunate enough to be hit by them.

The first impression that Teale ended up getting of her opponent could have been summed up in just a few words. Bright and Obnoxious. Looking at her was like trying to gaze into the sun: It burned the eyes and offended anyone with sensitive eyes. Still, Teale couldn't hate her. She was here for the same reason she was. However..tolerating her shrill shriek of a voice was another matter. Just hearing her voice for the first time made her want to wince. But, still, she was grateful for the compliment, so at the very least she was able to smile about that. But, when her opponent introduced herself as Aegle, Teale sighed internally and cupped her hands around her mouth, opening it to shout her own name back..only to have them drop when she saw what this girl's weapon was. As the briefcase unfolded into a fully set up combat rig, only one thought ran through Teale's mind: THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT!
This girl, while seemingly frail without her weapon, looked to be a powerhouse with it. The hands looked like crab pincers, and powerful looking metal boots surrounded her legs. She had to admit, seeing a weapon that was so complex was actually rather intimidating. But, she wouldn't let it affect how she fought. Yet, when she was given her warning, Teale didn't waste any time. The moment that Aegle leapt into the air, she dashed forward, heading towards the grasslands rather than the icy tundra. She knew that this wasn't going to be a battle she could win without being smart. The tundra would be harder for her to move around in because of the fact that it was mostly ice and snow. At least in the grasslands she could maneuver without much worry. She was internally cursing herself for not thinking about range however. So, the moment she got into the grasslands, she sighed and raised her empty hand, taking aim at the girl with a level hand, aimed outwards like an arrow as she lowered it, symbols appearing in bright, orange light as she took a deep breath, closing one eye to focus in on the girl as a ball of fire built up above her fingertips. The moment it was fully formed, Teale launched it away, taking up a more defensive pose as she waited for the girl to land. This was a battle that she would have to try her absolute hardest to win.

"Woohoo!" Aegle bellowed as she sailed through the air, like the worlds most poorly designed bird. With hands upraised, she wore an expression the very picture of intense, almost demented excitement. She had only a second to see her opponent move and, being that she was airborne, there was precisely nothing she could do to stop Teale as she darted for the plains. Aegle subsequently had just enough time to marvel at just how fast the other girl could move, before gravity and momentum both reasserted themselves on her briefly flying form. Swinging both hands down like guillotines as she landed, Aegle felt her teeth rattle in her head when all they connected with was vacant concrete, and it took her a moment regain control of her tingling hands. Grunting loudly, her efforts punctuated by the high pitched mechanical whirring of the Oupis, the orange haired pugilist rounded towards her fleeing foe. It was at this point that she saw, not a girl in a bright red dress with enviable blue hair, but a small ball of fire rapidly approaching her present position. Without time to wonder where the fireball had come from, or even time to properly recognize that it was, in fact, a ball of fire, Aegle did what she did whenever she experienced any kind of uncertainty. She stood her ground.
Grinning savagely, the pintsized huntswoman drew herself up and raised both hands to intercept the incoming missile; Without the time to rearrange the metal plates on her hands, all she could do was duck down behind her crossed arms and do her best to think non-flammable thoughts. What the fireball lacked in true mass and impact, it more than made up for in intense heat, because Aegle almost immediately felt the skin on her face and collar grow uncomfortably hot, while the few loose strands around her hoody quickly smoldered into unpleasantly scented smoke. Throwing her arms aside, she scythed through the remaining embers and burst what was left of the fiery projectile into a thousand drifting cinders. As the smoke cleared though, it was clear she hadn't been entirely successful in blocking the attack. Parts of her face had grown alarmingly red, and small tendrils of smoke were trailing up from her shoulders and hair. However, despite all evidence suggesting at least some of her was still on fire, Aegle still wore the kind of expression most people reserve for celebrating a birthday. "You can shoot fireballs!?" She called out as emerald eyes as bright and dangerous as lightning centered on Teale's very noticeable red dress and blue hair. She took off running immediately, and made obvious one very intentional aspect of the Oupis' design in the process. That being that it was designed for maneuverability as much as power. Clear concessions had been made to its design in this respect, most glaring of which was the total lack of personal protection anywhere that wasn't the wearer's hands and feet, but the result was obvious. Within only a couple of strides, the Oupis had achieved its rather alarming top speed. "That's so cool!" Aegle broke the perimeter to the plains section of the arena at a full sprint, with the wholly single minded intention of closing the distance between herself and her foe. Then she was upon Teale once again. She brought her arms up, clamped closed the claws at the end of each of her hands, and threw vicious right hook with all her momentum behind it. While this attack certainly lacked the intimidating quality of her leap attack, the orange and black spike at the end of her arm was no less lethal for not being preceded by a skyward jump. What was more, Aegle had not telegraphed it nearly so much as she had her leap attack. While her headlong sprint had made it clear an attack of some kind was incoming, it was not until the moment right before she struck that she even showed which hand would be delivering the strike. This made evident one very important thing about Aegle. Her choice of weapon wasn't meant to make up for any deficit in skill, because she almost certainly knew how to fight. Aegle locked eyes with Teale as she struck, and she regarded the taller girl with naked excitement utterly devoid of malice. Her mouth remained pulled bnack in joyful grin wholly unimpeded by the fact that small patches of skin on her face and neck were burnt and blistering. Neither had the fact that her hair was still smoldering, or that she had left a smoke trail during her sprint, impedee her excitement. Even as she threw a punch that could crack a deathstalker's shell, it seemed there was no place she'd rather be. "What else ya got!?"
